What do we do?

We’re applying social semantic technologies to the field of journalism and digital humanities. Most news now breaks on the social web and journalists have to manually search for text, images and videos which at times can feel like finding a needle in a haystack. We are working to create solutions to help journalists find those needles more easily and help archivists to index, link and contextualise material. View Detail →

Accompanying the main project work is a blog commenting on developments in the research area and the wider digital humanities. The research team will give their opinions on emerging trends in journalists use of social media but the blog will also feature in depth interviews with media insiders, technology experts and exponents of the dark arts of digital archiving and other digital humanties areas. What is Social Semantic Journalism?

Social Semantic Journalism is the use of semantic web and linked data technologies to enhance the newsgathering, contextualisation, verification and archival process by linking data from various data sources and thus providing context and evidence to news materials gathered through social media platforms, such as YouTube or Twitter.
